YAKISUGI STOOL
The Yakisugi Block is a piece designed to offer both beauty and versatility. It’s meant to be the perfect accent piece, and can be used as a side table, stool, or accent piece as needed.
The Yakisugi technique, loosely translated as, “charred cedar plank” originated in Japan as a way to preserve wood for exterior use - to make the wood more resistant to weather and insects. Once charred, the boards were coated with a protective oil finish to further prolong the life of the wood.
While our Yakisugi Blocks are offered in a handful of different wood species, we’ve employed the same charring techniques to create a level of texture and detail not seen with commercial stains and finishes.
Each block is made to order and is as unique as the log from which it is made. All naturally-occurring cracks are stabilized with hand-cut inlays, the shape and material of which can be chosen upon commission.
Sizing is somewhat determined by the logs themselves, but please inquire for available pieces.
These stools, by nature of the charring process, are offered primarily in the black finish pictured. However, we also offer this concept in any of our signature finishes upon request.
